Winter Art Opening: The Architecture of Harmony

Join us for a transformative evening at our gallery and cafe as we celebrate the season with The Architecture of Harmony, a winter exhibit featuring the legendary Pop Zhao. After a deliberate 20-year pause from the public eye, Zhao returns to the San Francisco art scene with works that explore the profound balance between human consciousness and the natural world.

This month’s exhibition focuses on Zhao’s deep spiritual connection to the Tibetan plateau, capturing the raw, crisp beauty of high-altitude pilgrimage through vivid textures and minimalist compositions.

• Walking Zen: The Breath Between Brush and Mountain: A visceral exploration of mindfulness, where each stroke mirrors the rhythm of a traveler’s breath against the vastness of sacred peaks.
• Tibet, Ninety-Nine: The Last Sacred Land: A series of ninety-nine miniature paintings echoing the snow-capped mountains. Each mark represents a single footstep pressed into the plateau—quiet, resilient, and enduring like unmelted snow.

Pop Zhao (Zhao Jian-Hai) is a cultural force and a master of "earth-art." An honor graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, his work has been exhibited at SFMOMA, PS1, and the Asian Art Museum. From covering the Great Wall in massive installations to creating powerful public memorials along the Embarcadero, Zhao’s career has moved from the grand public gesture to a private, internal focus. Following two decades of meditation and family life, these recent works represent the culmination of his lifelong search for inner harmony.
