About this Event
The performance will begin at 12pm onwards. You can come in throughout the day. However, I will note that from 6pm there will be a more formal performance until 7pm and then a gathering and drinks until 9pm, for which, I will say, requires RSVP. So do as you see fit.
Drawing upon Samuel Beckett's 1960 play Happy Days, this performance reimagines Winnie outside of the iconic mound of earth and relocates her into a contemporary and fragile landscape of perpetual motion. No longer buried, she walks, she runs, she is carried along. Winnie occupies a treadmill, armed with a collection of seemingly frivolous objects -- a beach bag, beach balls, lipstick, rum, cocktail umbrellas, a mini speaker, a towel... she continues the daily work of keeping herself going...
Winnie is both dependant and self-sustaining: a 'baby bird' and her own 'mother-bird'. The objects she refers to become extensions of this -- they are, simultaneously, companions, comforts, burdens, tools, enemies, reminders. They maintain a sense of order as the world shifts around her.
The original script of Happy Days will be used like paint, spread around, manipulated, mixed.
