About this Event
Bird Song Hike
May 16, 9 - 11 a.m.
Limit: 16
Instructor: Marion Mason, U.S.D.A. Forest Service
Pate Hollow Trail, Hoosier National Forest, Monroe County
Learning to identify bird songs can be difficult, but listening to bird songs can reduce anxiety and provide calming effects. Lucky for us there is a tool that can help with the identification. Itโs a free app called Merlin from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Weโll hike a few miles of the Pate Hollow Trail and during stops, practice using the app on our smartphones. Mid-May is peak songbird migration so we should get a good variety of birds at this time.
Participants are also welcome to bring their own bird field guides and binoculars. Weโll meet at the parking area for the Pate Hollow Trailhead, off state road 446 before the causeway. This trail has some elevation, but we will go at a slow pace.
