On Monday December 29th, we will host a fine wine-tasting fundraiser before Phish’s show at Madison Square Garden, from 4:30-6:30pm at Portale, not too far from MSG. The event is very limited in size. Even if you do not care for Phish, but you do care for great wine and food (Portale will provide pastas and salads), you will get your money's worth and will support the cause of music education for children and young adults.
Time & location: Portale at 126 West 18th Street (15 minute walk to MSG!) from 4:30pm - 6:30pm in the upstairs private event space.
Wine: A selection of delicious Champagnes, white and red wines to pair alongside the food. The wines are coming from the cellar of David Beckwith—a Mockingbird board member—who runs a fine and rare wine consulting company at www.grandcruwc.com. He will be pouring some of his personal favorites.
Cost: A $195 fee per person to be paid directly to The Mockingbird Foundation electronically. The market value of the benefits you will receive if you attend this fundraiser will not exceed $95, so $100 of the fee should be tax deductible (the Foundation is a 501(c)(3), but please consult your tax professional. Questions & Answers
Is there a dress code, must I wear black tie or an ascot?
No. The event is informal. You are free to dress as you would to attend a Phish show when it is cold outside. This event is basically a pre-show hang with other grown-ups, who will not vomit and/or spill beer on your significant other or friends.
What if something comes up and I can't make it at the last minute?
There are no refunds, but you may transfer your paid registration to someone else (or deduct the full $195, as all donations to Mockingbird are fully tax-deductible if you receive no goods or services in exchange for the donation).
Will I be able to drink all the wine I want?
It is a tasting, so please leave some wine for other people as well. But that said, there will be plenty of great wines, and we have never run out of wine at an event.
Can I make a donation even if I can't attend?
Yes please, and thank you! Every dollar really matters to our all-volunteer-run 501(c)(3). If you wish only to donate and not register for this event, you may do so by clicking on the DONATE button here.
Is any portion of the $195/person tax deductible?
Yes. Although you should consult your tax professional about the tax-deductible portion of the fee, the estimated fair market value of the food and wine each attendee will be served at this event is unlikely to exceed $95.
