Wine Geese: Wine Tasting from Irish Growers with Lorcan O’Brien

The Wine Geese: a relaxed, funny and very drinkable night of wines from Irish growers Andrew Eakin and Tom Gallagher, with the Irish Wino, Lorcan O’Brien, including a welcome glass of Cava, five wines from Irish growers in Bordeaux and Catalonia, and 20% off books and wine on the night.
Having already put in the hard yards on French wine night, all in the name of education, culture and “no, honestly, this is work”, Chapters Bookstore is delighted to invite you back for a night of wines grown by Irish people a long way from home.
Since the eighteenth century, Irish families have made their names in the vineyards of Europe, so many that they earned a title of their own: the Wine Geese. This evening we meet two of the modern generation. Andrew Eakin and Naomi Murtagh grew up a field apart in Kingscourt, Co Cavan, and now run an eighteenth-century château in Bordeaux. Tom Gallagher, from Boyle, Co Roscommon, spent lockdown bringing an abandoned vineyard in Catalonia back to life, one gnarly old vine at a time.
Your ticket includes:
A welcome glass of Cava
Catalonia’s own fizz, and a fitting start to a night that ends up there.
A guided tasting of five wines from Irish growers
Lorcan will take you from Château Puynard in Bordeaux, where Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grow on clay and limestone, to Tom Gallagher’s Grenache, grown on slate on the edge of Priorat. Expect good stories, honest wine and the odd detour.
20% off all books and wine on the night
This is where things become genuinely dangerous. Wines from both growers sit on our shelves, so you can take home the bottle you liked best.
No snobbery. No exam. No need to know your Montsant from your Médoc before you arrive.
Just a great guide, five wines with Irish roots, a welcome glass of Cava, and a room full of people in a bookshop pretending this is all very serious and not simply a lovely Thursday night.
Tickets €55 each
2 Tickets €100
