The Coronado Historical Association invites you to join us as we delve into the fascinating story of golfers Alex Smith and Robert Scott Simpson. “Bobby” Simpson was raised in Carnoustie, Scotland, where he learned to play championship golf. He became one of the best local players. They didn't realize it then, but if you could win a club championship in Carnoustie, you could compete with the best in the world. Bobby came to the United States in 1899 with his schoolmate, clubmate, and close neighbor, Alex Smith. They both won two Western Open golf titles, and Alex won two US Open crowns. Robert S. Simpson took the reins at Coronado after the Great War. Robert Scott Simpson carried on the tradition of excellence in golf at Coronado, hosting the grand 1929 Coronado Open. Like Alex before him, Bobby took charge of the Coronado Golf Club as a golf professional, or as Coronado faithful affectionately called them, "Professors." Join us this November to learn about the twelve extraordinary years he spent in Coronado.Tickets are available now!
