Windfall Light: Collections, Connections, and Art Histories

Join AGG Director Shauna McCabe and artist Ron Shuebrook as they discuss the art histories that underpin the exhibition Windfall Light.

Reflecting on the relationships that emerge between works from AGG’s collection and contemporary artworks on view now in Windfall Light, the discussion will consider how artists speak across time through shared practices, subject matter, and engagements with landscape.

Windfall Light brings together historical works from AGG’s collection—including those by Franklin Carmichael, A. J. Casson, Gordon Couling, Kathleen Daly, Prudence Heward, Edwin Holgate, Arthur Lismer, Evan Macdonald, J. E. H. MacDonald, Doris McCarthy, J. W. Morrice, George Pepper, William Goodridge Roberts, Tom Thomson, Frederick Varley, and others—with contemporary artists John Chalmers, Susan Dobson, Kim Dorland, Don Russell, Stephen Shore, Monica Tap, Takao Tanabe, and Pearl Van Geest. Through this conversation, McCabe and Shuebrook will explore the connections at play across the exhibition, considering how works made in different moments illuminate one another through their attention to light, place, memory, and the changing conditions in which they work.
