Led by Dr. LaToya A. Webb, the Wind Ensemble will feature music by Bakhari S. Nokuri, Yukiko Nishimura, Eric Whitacre, Kevin Day, and Benjamin Horne, as well as Kevin Day's Harp Concertino.
Kevin Day's Harp Concertino was commissioned by a consortium led by the United States Coast Guard Band, and the Ball State Wind Ensemble is proud to be a consortium member. The work honors principal harpist MUC Megan Sesma's retirement. It is a celebratory, reflective work, and we are honored to feature our own harp professor, Joanne "Annie" King, as soloist.
The Wind Ensemble will close the program with Benjamin Horne's Spiritual Symphony — winner of the National Band Association's William D. Revelli Memorial Composition Contest. This work draws on four African American spirituals: "Follow the Drinking Gourd," "Motherless Child," "Deep River," and "What a Morning."
