William Basinski est un musicien et compositeur de formation classique travaillant dans le domaine des médias expérimentaux depuis plus de 30 ans à New York, et plus récemment en Californie. Utilisant une technologie obsolète et des boucles de bandes analogiques, ses paysages sonores envoûtants et mélancoliques explorent la nature éphémère de la vie et creuse le mystère du temps. Son chef-d'œuvre épique en 4 disques, The Disintegration Loops, a été acclamé par la critique internationale et a été choisi comme l'un des 50 meilleurs albums de 2004 par Pitchfork Media. La réédition du coffret LP de luxe Temporary Residence de 2012 a reçu le prix de la meilleure réédition de l'année et une note de 10 sur Pitchfork. Des installations et des films réalisés en collaboration avec l'artiste-cinéaste James Elaine ont été présentés dans des festivals et des musées du monde entier, et ses concerts sont complets partout dans le monde. Basinski a été choisi par le directeur musical Antony Hegarty pour créer la musique de l'opéra de Robert Wilson, The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, qui a eu sa première mondiale au Festival international de Manchester en juillet 2011 et a fait une tournée en Europe en 2012 et en Amérique du Nord en 2013. William Basinski is a classically trained musician and composer who has been working in experimental media for over 30 years in NYC and most recently, California. Employing obsolete technology and analogue tape loops, his haunting and melancholy soundscapes explore the temporal nature of life and resound with the reverberations of memory and the mystery of time. His epic 4-disc masterwork, The Disintegration Loops received international critical acclaim and was chosen as one of the top 50 albums of 2004 by Pitchfork Media. The Temporary Residence deluxe LP box-set reissue from 2012 was awarded best re-issue of the year and a score of 10 on Pitchfork. Installations and films made in collaboration with artist-filmmaker, James Elaine have been presented in festivals and museums internationally, and his concerts are presented to sold out crowds around the world. Basinski was chosen by Music Director, Antony Hegarty to create music for the Robert Wilson opera, The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic which had its world premiere at the Manchester International Festival in July 2011 and toured Europe in 2012 and North America in 2013. Orchestral transcriptions of The Disintegration Loops by Maxim Moston have been performed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Queen Elizabeth Hall and La Batie Festival in Geneva, Switzerland, Dark Mofo Festival in Hobart Tasmania and most recently Pitchfork Midwinter Festival with the Chicago Philharmonic. John Bence employs music as a tangible expression of the immaterial. The British composer’s visceral and spiritual sound world probes the metaphysical. Raised in Bristol’s burgeoning underground electronic music scene and a graduate of the Royal
Birmingham Conservatoire, John Bence manages to employ compositional complexity to manifest potent emotions. Gregorian chant, orchestral arrangements, rippling synthesizers and field recordings are equally at home in his music.
