Join Wilfred Burton for the Saskatoon launch of If This Buffalo Coat Could Talk (Red Deer Press). Beverley Brenna joins us host for the evening.The event will be hosted live in the travel alcove and also available as a simultaneous YouTube stream.
Ten-year-old Charlie goes with his grandmother and aunties to clean out the house of his beloved Tante Sarah and Nook James after their passing. In an old box, Charlie finds Mooshoom’s old buffalo coat. Maybe a family reunion where everyone shares their memories of the coat will help in this time of mourning. As the stories are shared, Charlie feels a strong pride in his family while learning some important pieces of family history as well as the history of the Métis Nation.
Wilfred Burton is a retired teacher and writer originally from the Midnight Lake area in Saskatchewan. His ancestors are the Nolins and Delormes. He currently resides on Treaty Six Territory and the Homeland of the Round Prairie Métis in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Wilfred has many Metis specific children’s book: The Fiddle Dancer series, The Road Allowance Kitten series, and many other titles. His most recent publication the picture book Kohkum's Royal Bannock, illustrated by Hawlii Pichette (Thistledown Press, 2025) and he has a number of new books in the works.
Beverley Brenna is a writer, educator, and children's literature scholar; she edited this book for Red Deer Press.
