7pm - listen to the experts from the National Bat Monitoring Programme - Bat Conservation Trust

8pm -8.45pm - Guided walk and the Sunset Survey

The NBMP has been running since 1996 and is the longest-running multispecies mammal monitoring programme in the UK. Every summer, thousands of volunteers – from beginners to experts – venture out to experience the wonder of bats in their natural environment. Through various annual citizen-science surveys, NBMP currently provides sufficient data to produce GB level population trends for 11 of the UK's 17 breeding bat species. ‘The Sunset/sunrise survey’ - our introductory survey, would be suitable for anyone to start with (click here to find out more!). NBMP deliver free workshop talks to help the public discover their local bats. We have run some sessions and are planning more, as this has become very popular among bat lovers. This free beginner’s workshop invites people to explore the wonderful world of bats! It covers which bats are in the UK, how they are surveyed, and how people can find these amazing animals in their local area. It will also show how to carry out the first bat count and how people can continue developing their skills.
