Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good adventure story and a bad ending…and maybe even save a life.
WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast who wants a basic level of first aid training for remote trips when access to medical help can be delayed.
This course will place special emphasis on the first aid skills for the hiker and backpacker but is suitable for all outdoor enthusiasts, including mountain bikers, paddlers, horseback riders, scout leaders, outdoor educators, guides, trail crew leaders, and anyone who spends time in the outdoors, particularly in remote or wilderness settings.
First developed by SOLO Wilderness Medicine School in 1976, WFA is a 16-hour course that focuses on the entry-level skills of: response and assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, soft tissue injuries, and medical emergencies. The WFA curriculum focuses on real-life examples and blends classroom learning with hands-on scenarios. Upon completion, students will receive a SOLO certification card, good for 2 years
