Every year, hikers, campers, and outdoor professionals face emergencies far from medical care. This course gives you the life-saving skills you need to stay calm, act fast, and save lives in the wilderness.

Whether you are a Scout leader, Scout, guide, adventurer, or parent, this certification prepares you for the unexpected.

What You Will Learn:

In just one day of hands-on training, you'll gain the ability to:

• Assess and stabilize injuries and sudden illnesses
• Control bleeding and care for wounds
• Manage fractures, sprains, and shock
• Identify and treat heat stroke, hypothermia, and other environmental threats
• Improvise with limited gear when survival depends on it

Course Details:

• Hybrid format: Online modules open October 1, 2026 (complete before skills day)
• Skills Day: Saturday, October 10th, 2026 9-5pm
• Certifcation: earn a nationally recoginzed, 2-year ECSI WIlderness First Aid Certification
• CEUs: VA EMS Provider CEUs available upon request

Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paid participating parent/guarding/leader.

Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) is a 501c3 grassroots nonprofit started by a group of environmentally conscious people in 1985. Our watershed protection organization is based in Fredericksburg, Virginia with satellite offices in Culpeper and Tappahannock, Virginia. FOR works to be the voice and active force for a healthy and scenic Rappahannock River. We accomplish this through three program pillars – advocacy, restoration, and education.
