Sooxanne Rolfe and Melita Dennett are delighted to present ‘Wilde Volk’ at Rottingdean Windmill on July 26th /July 27th @ 11 am – 4pm. What to Expect
Wilde Volk is a celebration of the stranger rural, animalistic and horned festivals of Northern and Eastern Europe through photography, art, film, sculpture and sound.
For over eight years, we + friends have explored numerous Wilde Volk festivals of Europe. Our adventures have taken us to the dark and devilish Krampus parades in Germany, the cumbrous horned processions of the Perchten in Austria, and colourful Kurkeri Masquerades of Bulgaria, plus many more!
Through our own personal photos and film, we are thrilled to share the strangeness and excitement of these esoteric and bizarre rituals. However, to create an immersive experience, we have invited international and local artists to respond to our journeys.
We are incredibly excited to showcase the photos from internationally renowned photographer Ivo Danchev plus present soundscapes from Romanian sound designer Gigi Catrina.
Closer to home, we are supersonically delighted to invite the experimental electronic music collective Spirit of Gravity, who will be using our field recordings to create new Wilde Volk soundscapes.
We are also very honoured to be exhibiting horned works from stained-glass artists Jeff Kazmir and Penny Toomy and Willow Sculpturer Woody Fox. (More artists to follow!)
How many strange and horned creatures can one get in a Windmill? Who knows!
Please save the date, and see you all there in July! Free - no need to book, just pitch up!
