Women In Music

Following international, we are putting on an all female night at the WaterBear Venue, to celebrate incredible local women in music. We will also be raising money for local Brighton charity Survivors Network.

Survivors’ Network is a feminist organisation and we operate within an empowerment ethos. Part of this empowerment ethos is that we treat people as the experts in their own lives. We work within a feminist analysis of sexual violence, meaning that we see structural inequalities within society as both a cause and a consequence of sexual violence. Women and children form the vast majority of people who experience sexual violence.

The following artists will be performing...

Lucretia Stokes

Lucretia Stokes is an alt-indie folk artist based in Brighton. Lucretia’s main focus is dynamic, intimate performances with just her and her guitar. The songs are often about her own experience as a woman and unconventional childhood.

Lizzie Hill

I am an 18 year old singer-songwriter originally from Cornwall, studying songwriting at Waterbear. In 2024 I released my debut EP ‘did it even happen at all’ in which the final track was chosen as BBC introducing south and wests Track of the week. I have played Festivals such as RattlerFest and Boardmasters and have supported local artists.

Evangeline Eastwood

Evangeline Eastwood is an English Soul/Rock Singer, Songwriter and self taught pianist. A powerhouse reminiscent of Janis Joplin, Joss Stone and Adele. Her vocals reflect a combination of soulful melismas and rocky screams. Accompanied by her backing musicians, Evangeline music explores the duality of love and heartbreak, as well as challenges misogyny and sexism through her lyrics.

Izzie Derry

Likened to artists such as: PJ Harvey and Fiona Apple, Izzie's honest lyrics and soaring melodies capture the spirit of what it means to be a young woman in today’s world. Izzie's dedication to her craft has led to a series of impressive milestones in her career. Last summer alone, she graced the stages of two of the UK's most esteemed music festivals: Glastonbury Festival and The Great Escape. These shows solidify her reputation as an exciting emerging artist.

Beyond festival stages, Izzie has also had the opportunity to support John Grant at Coventry Cathedral as part of the Terry Hall Homegrown Sessions. Previously she had the pleasure of being an opener for artists including: Olly Murs and Fairport Convention. Izzie's talent hasn’t gone unnoticed by major media outlets. She has received airplay from BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 6, as well as live sessions and festival slots.

We also have OBE awarded illustrator Chris Riddell joining us to live draw the event. His drawings will be projected onto the wall as he draws each of the artists songs.

He has previously live drawn for artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and The National.
