About this Event

Wild Writing
A 6 week generative writing workshop series

Registration is now open for our next round of small group Wild Writing classes. No experience is necessary, just a desire to write about (your) life, with no fear of criticism, with the support of likeminded souls. Join us in person, surrounded by the thousands of poems stored at the fantastic Scottish Poetry Library.

One ticket covers all 6 workshops (Tuesdays 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th May and 2nd, 9th June). EARLY BIRD OFFER: 15% OFF BEFORE 17th APRIL.

How does it work?

We meet in person at the Scottish Poetry Library in small groups for 90 minutes. We bring nothing but an openness to listen and respond. We use poetry as a prompt and then we write for 10-15 minutes, pen never leaving the page. We push down the inner-critic and we welcome what arises. We listen graciously to what each person has written. We never judge, but we always support.

Henri Nouwen said: "Writing is a process in which we discover what lives in us. The writing itself reveals to us what is alive in us. The deepest satisfaction of writing is precisely that it opens up new spaces within us of which we were not aware before we started to write. To write is to embark on a journey of which we do not know the final destination. Thus, writing requires a great deal of trust. We have to say to ourselves, "I do not yet know what I carry in my heart, but I trust that it will emerge as I write."

Testimonials from previous attendees:

"I cannot speak highly enough of the wild writing classes. I came in the hope it would spark my creativity and inspiration again and it did exactly that. I found myself writing more now beyond the class and will be attending more in the future. I really enjoyed being in this space to share our work, judgement free."

"I found the safe space and poetic prompts allowed me to express what needed to be expressed, which for me went deep. It was a healing experience for me and I am grateful to have found it at this point on my journey. I also loved discovering new poets and being part of holding space for others sharing their experiences."

About Lorna French

I have had a rich and varied career as a writer, teacher and public sector leader, and now that I am firmly in the second half of life, I am committed to sharing all that I have learned with others. I firmly believe that ‘if we are going to be the rebuilders of society, we need to be rebuilt ourselves’ (Richard Rohr) - and I hold gentle and restorative spaces to achieve this.

As a certified Wild Writing teacher, I lead small groups to find balance and harmony through writing. Wild Writers are creatives or public sector workers or teenagers or any other type of human who is boldly and often messily transforming on their hero’s or heroine’s journey.

I am also the author of 8 contemporary romances which have been translated into over a dozen languages and sold worldwide. I believe the stories we tell ourselves and others today are as important as myths and fairytales were to our ancestors - and I am passionate about helping others tell their stories authentically.
