Meeting at Bevendean Community Garden, join us for an 'Archeodiscovery' guided downland walk to Castle Hill Nature Reserve, Woodingdean.Beginning at Bevendean Community Garden, walking through local downland and around Castle Hill Nature Reserve, join us for a medium length (4 miles) guided walk and discover a very local part of the South Downs National Park.

Starting location : Bevendean Community Garden, Heath Hill Ave, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 4FH
Ending Location: Bexhill Road, Woodingdean. Option to get number 22 Bus from Bexhill Road, back to central Brighton, or walk back.
About this event
Blow away the new year cobwebs! Join us for a bracing January walk in the picturesque countryside just on the doorstep of Moulsecoomb and Bevendean. Our adventure begins at one of Bevendean’s most beautiful gardens, before heading out over the hills to Castle Hill Nature Reserve.
Saturday 11th January 2025, 11am - 2pm/2.30pm
Please arrive at 10.45am to set off at 11am
Location and meet point:
Bevendean Community Garden, Heath Hill Avenue, Brighton and Hove, BN2 4FH (Number 48 bus to Heath Hill avenue, on-street car parking available) What3words: spark.nests.verse
We will meet in Bevendean Community Garden. Turn left just after the bus stop opposite Bevendean Primary School. Walk a short way and cross over a metal vehicle gate. Turn left and the garden will be ahead of you. Walk into the garden through the gate. There is a compost toilet here.
While we will be moving at a medium - slow pace, please note that our route is likely to include uneven ground and a occasional sharp inclines , and is therefore not suitable for anyone using a wheelchair or with severe mobility issues. Duration
This Castle Hill Walk will takes around 2 - 2.5 hours, however as we will stop periodically to hear from our local Archeology guide, therefore the walk will take approximately 3- 3.5 hours. Please also factor in the time to travel back to Brighton (either by bus or walking) if you need to be somewhere later on.

Weather
The event remains enjoyable even with a bit of rain. If we are experiencing torrential downpours, or very high winds the walk will be re-scheduled we will be in touch 24hrs before if this is the case. As we will be walking in January, many layers are recommended, a good idea is to think how many layers you are thinking of wearing, then add 2 or 3 more! Hats and gloves recommended.

Join us for a range of inspiring walks starting at Bevendean Community Garden !
Our Wild Walk events are four guided walks running from October 2024 - July 2025.
The walks are designed to be accessed very easily for people living in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean. The walks require no car. Each walk finishes near a bus stops where you can take a bus or two, to back to where we started.
The walks range from under 2 miles to just over 7miles. On each walk we will be accompanied by two guides, a local wild spaces guide and a specialist in either; Artefacts, Crafting/living history and Archaeology, Foraging, materials & Remedies, Ritual & Folklore, or Natural Habitat.
Taking a guided walk to discover local routes that you may not know, or would like more information on. Join us to discover the beauty of the outdoors and learn about local wildlife. This in-person event is perfect for nature lovers of all ages. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and explore the wonders in our local surroundings.
