Quasar Saxophone Quartet + D. Andrew Stewart | SALT New Music Festival 2026
What happens when acoustic instruments, bodies, movement, and digital technology enter the same creative space?
Wild Truth brings Montréal’s Quasar Saxophone Quartet together with composer and digital musical instrumentalist D. Andrew Stewart for an evening devoted entirely to new work. Five world premieres explore different forms of musical collaboration, moving between dreamlike sound worlds, sharply defined gestures, changing sonic contours, and the physical relationship between performer and technology.
At the centre of the evening is Stewart’s La vérité brute / The Wild Truth for saxophone quartet and Karlax. The Karlax is a digital instrument whose sound is shaped through the performer’s physical movements, making gesture itself part of the composition and creating a direct connection between body, technology, and sound.
For SALT 2026: PROXIMITY, the concert brings us close to the process of musical creation itself: composers working with performers, acoustic instruments encountering digital environments, and audiences hearing five new works at the moment they enter the world.

ABOUT QUASAR SAXOPHONE QUARTET
Quasar is a Montréal-based saxophone quartet known for its energetic and adventurous approach to contemporary music. Since its founding in 1994, the ensemble has explored repertoire ranging from acoustic music and improvisation to electronics, music theatre, and multidisciplinary performance.
Close collaboration with composers is central to Quasar’s work. The quartet has commissioned and premiered more than 200 new works and has performed extensively in Canada and internationally. Its work has been recognized with 11 OPUS Awards, including Artist of the Year.
ABOUT D. ANDREW STEWART
D. Andrew Stewart is a composer and digital musical instrumentalist whose work brings acoustic and electroacoustic performance into dialogue. His practice explores new interfaces for musical expression and asks how technology can extend instrumental performance while preserving the physical and expressive role of the musician.

The SALT New Music Festival brings together British Columbian, Canadian, and international composers and performers in Victoria. SALT 2026: PROXIMITY explores closeness between people, artistic practices, technologies, environments, and different ways of experiencing the world.
