This time last year, Tom Chesshyre, author of ‘Slow Trains Around Britain’ and ‘Lost in the Lakes’, came to Holmfirth as part of his research for his new book ‘Wild Peaks’. Wild Peaks is a celebration of Britain’s first national park on its 75th anniversary. Tom stayed at The Old Bridge, and wandered around the town talking to locals, visiting Holmfirth Library, The Picturedrome, Wrinkled Stocking, Bengal Spice and lots of other places along the way before coming to talk to us at Read.
We’ve had an early read of this brilliant book and can confirm that your favourite booksellers appear in it along with many other locals including Peter Carr, the lead singer of Snake Eyes, a librarian, and a lady called Amy with 17 dogs (we’d love to know who this was!).
Tom’s book is an hilarious Bill Bryson-style journey from Manchester to Sheffield via Diggle, Mossley, Holmfirth, Langsett, Bakewell, Buxton, Kinder Scout and many more towns and villages. The characters he meets along the way makes this a brilliantly entertaining travelogue.
Wild Peaks comes out at the end of March but we’ve been very lucky to secure an event with Tom on Saturday 18th April at 7pm to talk all about his book and his conversations along the way.
We’d love you to join us! Tickets are £5 and include free refreshments and money off the book. This is an opportunity not to be missed 💛
