Wild & Curious — Sunday Mushroom walk in Central Park
About this Event
Come find rare, edible and beautiful fungi with us in the heart of the Big Apple! Yes, there are rare fungi found in Central Park that have never been found anywhere else in the world (yet)!
You don't need to know a single mushroom by name to fall in love with this walk you just need to be curious!
This is a guided walk, mini mushroom masterclass, and hands-on art session, all rolled into one relaxed afternoon outdoors. No experience required. No "right" way to draw. Just you, the hidden NYC magic, and a small group of equally curious people ready to slow down, look closer, and discover a hidden world that's been right under your feet the whole time.
What You'll Discover
Led by real, knowledgeable mycologists Matthew and Anna, you'll wander at an easy pace while learning to spot, identify, and appreciate the mushrooms growing wild around you. Get up close. Touch them, smell them, turn them over and see what's underneath.
Your guide will bring the forest to life with stories you'll actually want to repeat at dinner: how some mushrooms release their spores in a tiny burst, why certain mushrooms taste like chicken (and how to cook them), and how this entire hidden network is quietly holding the forest together, feeding trees and keeping the whole ecosystem in balance.
By the end, you won't just know more about mushrooms, the way you walk through the forest will change.
Then, We Create
No art degree. No "talent" required. Just an invitation to slow down and notice.
After the walk, settle into an easy, guided art session inspired by what you just saw. Try a few approachable techniques: simple sketching, sun prints, texture rubbings, even capturing the shadow of a mushroom cap on paper. Its like a little summer camp break from day to day life. There's no wrong way to do this, and you'll walk away with something you made yourself!
A Few Reasons to Say Yes
- A genuine break from screens and schedules without leaving the city!
- A small, intimate group with real, personalized attention from your guide
- A mushroom tasting, to put a flavor to everything you've learned
- A take-home digital booklet, so the learning doesn't stop when the walk ends
- Original artwork, made by you, to keep
- A new favorite answer to "what did you do this weekend?"
Every walk is different — the mushrooms change with the seasons, and so does the art activity. Come back next week and it's a whole new experience.
Spots are limited to keep the group small and the experience personal. Reserve yours below.
