Whānau friendly Love Food Hate Waste workshop for Matariki – Glen Eden

Matariki is a time to celebrate with kai (food), gather, and reflect on te taiao (the environment), making it a perfect opportunity to practice sustainability by reducing food waste. Join Wei for this Love Food Hate Waste – Matariki whānau friendly workshop. Bring a few vegetarian soup ingredients such as herbs, garden produce, or simply veges in your fridge that are edible, just looking a bit tired. Together we will make a warm hearty soup to share.
We will be learning about each whetu (star) and āna tohu mō te taiao (their signs for the enviornment); reflecting te matauranga o te kai (the knowledge of food) we have learned from our tūpuna (ancestors). Practical advice about how to be creative with your fresh food and leftovers will be given, to help them last longer. Making the most of the food we have helps save money and is better for the environment. We will play a few games and sing waiata together to consolidate our learning.
This workshop is designed for children 10 years and above and their whānau. Please register one ticket per child and one ticket per accompanying adult. Each child must be accompanied by at least one adult.
This is a hands-on activity. Please bring your chopping board and your taste buds along.
Please inform [email protected] if any food allergies need to be accommodated.
Spaces are limited so booking essential: Register this workshop today to celebrate Te Tau Hou Māori (the Māori New Year) with us: https://compostcollective.org.nz/events/free-whanau-friendly-love-food-hate-waste-workshop-for-matariki-glen-eden/
