Why do so many women love reading ficiational crime?Two local authors discuss the evergreen appeal of stories that feature death and deception, and ask why crime fiction is so popular and what draws female readers in particular to dark themes in fiction.
Jo Furniss lives in Hove. Her latest novel is Dead Mile, a murder mystery set on a grid-locked motorway. A former BBC journalist, she is also the author of several psychological thrillers, including the best-selling All the Little Children.
Sam Holland lives in the New Forest. Her Major Crimes series follows detectives as they hunt down serial killers. She also writes as Louisa Scarr, whose new series about a police dog handler launches in July 2024 with Gallow's Wood.
