Why don't scientists look like me?

We will host an insightful interview with experts exploring why scientists don’t always look like the people they are trying to help.

Only 8% of young people surveyed think that scientists look like them. Women were not legally required in clinical drug trials until 1993. What does this mean for what we know about health, and what has been missed? What does the research tell us about how diverse science teams change the quality of science?

We will interview a panel of experts to find out. Panellists will include Dr Maheen Siddiqui, Research Fellow at Birkbeck University and lead of the Diversity in Developmental Science Network, and Dr Salim Hashmi, Senior Lecturer and Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead at King’s College London.

We will cover the research on underrepresentation in science, celebrate the people changing what science looks like, and explore what better science could mean for all of us.
