About this Event

Professor Marie Griffiths is a distinguished academic and expert in digital transformation, currently serving as Professor in Digital Technologies at Salford Business School. With a PhD in Business Information Systems, she has built a notable career in leadership, industry collaboration, and research innovation. She is also co-author of the second edition of Strategic Digital Transformation – A Results-Driven Approach (2025), reinforcing her authority in the field.

Marie has held key leadership positions, including EDI Lead for Research (2023–present), PGR Director at Salford Business School (2019–2023), and Head of the Digital Business Research Centre. She also served as President of the UK Academy for Information Systems (UKAIS) after her tenure as Vice President. Her leadership extends beyond academia, as she is a trustee for Emmaus Salford, a charity supporting the homeless.

As an educator, Marie has pioneered multiple postgraduate programmes, including the newly launched MSc Managing AI in Business (2024). She has successfully led programmes in digital business and innovation, ensuring industry relevance by collaborating with business leaders. Her dedication to teaching excellence has been recognised through multiple Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teacher Awards.

Marie’s research and industry engagement are extensive. She has played a critical role in securing external research funding, leading 11 Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) that bridge academia and industry, fostering business innovation. Recent projects include collaborations with Manchester Chamber of Commerce, OPAL, and Hydro-X, securing significant funding from Innovate UK. Her research has also contributed to policy development, notably through work with the British Standards Institute Steering Group for Digital Maturity.

A passionate advocate for research culture and inclusivity, Marie has supervised 14 PhD completions and currently oversees doctoral candidates researching fintech, digital transformation, and sustainability. She established a PGR International Women’s Network to support female researchers and played a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive research culture at Salford University.

Marie’s influence extends across the academic and business communities. She has served on the EPSRC ICT Prioritisation Panel, acted as an external examiner for multiple institutions, including Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and contributed to international conferences as an organiser and keynote speaker.

Her career is defined by a passion for digital transformation, a dedication to student success, and a commitment to using technology to drive social and business impact. Her extensive experience working with businesses has reinforced her belief that successful transformation must be people-centric, ensuring that people remain at the heart of any change. These insights have provided a comprehensive understanding of how organisations respond to digital disruptions, how workforces adapt to emerging technologies, and how industries evolve in an era of rapid digitalisation.
