Who Gets to Make in and around Bath? A Citizens for Culture Roadshow
About this Event
Who Gets to Make in and around Bath?
A Citizens for Culture Roadshow on Creative Space and Shared Resources
Bath Artists’ Studios and What Next West are hosting a Citizens for Culture roadshow exploring how Bath and the surrounding area can provide better shared, affordable access to creative spaces, equipment, and resources for artists, communities, and small groups.
This session will focus particularly, but not exclusively on:
Regional Priority 10: Providing shared, affordable access to creative spaces, equipment and resources for artists, communities, and small groups.
There will also be a reference to:
Regional Priority 7: Shared, creative resource hubs that provide space, information, funding and collaboration opportunities.
The event is part of the Citizens for Culture roadshow programme, which explores how the Citizens’ Cultural Plan for the West of England can be delivered in practice.
This will not be a traditional presentation. It will be a practical, collaborative session using the Share / Grow / Build framework:
Share: what already exists in Bath and around that could be celebrated, connected or amplified
Grow: what could be strengthened or developed
Build: what may need to be created together
We are inviting artists, creative workers, residents, cultural organisations, education partners, civic leaders, funders, property/building stakeholders and community groups to think together about what kind of creative infrastructure Bath needs for the future.
The session will ask:
- What shared creative spaces and resources already exist in Bath and the wider area?
- Who currently struggles to access space, tools, equipment or support?
- What role could unused or underused buildings play?
- How could artists, communities, councils, funders, landlords and educators work together?
- What practical next steps could help Bath and the surrounding area protect and grow the places where culture is actually made?
This event is especially relevant for people interested in creative workspace, cultural infrastructure, community access, adult learning, artist development, public buildings, shared equipment, local regeneration and citizen-led cultural decision-making.
