Who Are You Dancing With?
Visible and Invisible Forces and Relationships in CI
What are some of the ways that we can more fully inhabit the shared experience of dancing CI?
In this workshop we will employ the vocabulary of Contact Improvisation to explore ways towards deepening and expanding our relationship with ourselves and with others as we dance.
Alongside and sourced in the physical practice of dancing CI, the workshop will offer ways to bring less visible aspects of yourself into your dancing, which can offer a richness of depth, nuance, range and integration both internally and externally.
The workshop will address aspects of what may be personal to you and how these aspects interface and integrate within the vocabulary and form of CI.
In this way there is an ongoing play between the micro and the macro in your dancing, the personal and the shared and the exchange that happens between them on a moment to moment basis.
The workshop will offer you practices to remain present on many levels in your dancing of CI so that you can resource aspects of yourself that you
may not normally access while you dance.
This includes exploring and integrating our vision, hearing, sensation and movement both separately and as applied to the practice of CI, a practice which brings in flexibility, specificity and focus, a deeper relationship to the environment to access support for your body and emotional sentience and colour to include in your dancing.
Juliet Shelley is a dancer, choreographer and performer currently residing in Paris, France. She studied dance professionally at the Laban Centre, London and at the Centre for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. Alongside her performance work, she has been dancing and teaching Contact Improvisation for most of her adult life. Her teachers include Nancy Stark Smith, Steve Paxton, Katie Duck, Julyen Hamilton, Kirstie Simson, Chris Aiken and Martin Keogh. She has taught classes and workshops in the UK, France, Netherlands, Italy, USA, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia. She also teaches classes in Pilates and the Alexander Technique.

Comment pouvons-nous vivre pleinement l'expérience partagée de la danse en contact improvisé ?
Dans cet atelier, nous utiliserons le vocabulaire du contact improvisé pour explorer les moyens d'approfondir et d'élargir notre relation à nous-mêmes et aux autres par la danse.
En parallèle et en s'appuyant sur la pratique physique de la danse en contact improvisé, cet atelier proposera des pistes pour intégrer des aspects moins visibles de soi-même dans sa danse, ce qui peut apporter profondeur, nuances, étendue et intégration, tant intérieurement qu'extérieurement.
L'atelier abordera des aspects personnels et la manière dont ils s'intègrent au vocabulaire et à la forme de l'IC. Ainsi, un jeu permanent s'instaure entre le micro et le macro dans votre danse, le personnel et le partagé, et l'échange qui s'opère entre eux à chaque instant.
L'atelier vous proposera des pratiques pour rester présent à plusieurs niveaux dans votre danse de l'IC, afin de vous ressourcer dans des aspects de vous-même auxquels vous n'auriez pas normalement accès en dansant.
Cela inclut l'exploration et l'intégration de notre vision, de notre ouïe, de nos sensations et de nos mouvements, séparément et appliqués à la pratique de l'IC. Cette pratique apporte souplesse, spécificité et concentration, une relation plus profonde à l'environnement pour accéder au soutien de votre corps, ainsi qu'une sensibilité émotionnelle et une couleur à inclure dans votre danse.
Juliet Shelley est une danseuse, chorégraphe et performeuse résidante à Paris. Elle a étudié la danse professionnellement au Laban Centre de Londres et au Centre for New Dance Development d'Amsterdam. Parallèlement à son travail de performance, elle danse et enseigne le contact improvisation depuis la majeure partie de sa vie adulte. Parmi ses professeurs figurent Nancy Stark Smith, Steve Paxton, Katie Duck, Julyen Hamilton, Kirstie Simson, Chris Aiken et Martin Keogh. Elle a donné des cours et des ateliers au Royaume-Uni, en France, aux Pays-Bas, en Italie, aux États-Unis, en Malaisie, en Nouvelle-Zélande et en Australie. Elle enseigne également le Pilates et la technique Alexander.
