Whittle the day away in our woodland workshop learning how to carve with a knife.
During the morning workshop participants will have a go at using carving knives to shape fresh green wood into decorative and useful objects. Fancy carving a walking stick? eating utensil? pendant or decoration? Choose from a number of examples or bring your own ideas. Our tutor will demonstrate and teach safe techniques, no previous experience required.
We welcome families and have carving tools suitable for all ages, participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
What's included in the price?
Introduction to using carving knives. What type of knife is best for carving? Discussion of safety.
Wood selection. What is green wood? What species is best for carving? How to identify good carving wood and how to find it.
Wood carving ideas. Stuck for ideas? We have loads of examples of things you might like to make. Discover the endless possibilities of wood carving.
Carving techniques. Learn the 5 basic knife grips and how to use them to effectively carve wood. We will demonstrate safe techniques before giving everyone a chance to practice.
