Whitney Johnson, Lia Kohl, and Macie Stewart come to Glow Hall as a trio in support of BODY SOUND, their new album on International Anthem.
The group brings together three major figures in contemporary experimental music: Whitney Johnson of Matchess, Lia Kohl, and Macie Stewart of Finom, formerly OHMME, each with deep roots in experimental music, improvisation, composition, and cross-genre collaboration. Across their individual work, they have played, recorded, arranged, or collaborated with Circuit des Yeux, Makaya McCraven, SZA, Chance the Rapper, Jeff Tweedy, Whitney, Ken Vandermark, Rob Mazurek, claire rousay, Steve Hauschildt, and many more.
Together, they use viola, cello, violin, voices, manual tape processing, and analog loops to shape music from alternately tranquil and disquieting improvisation. BODY SOUND is deep, melancholy, and triumphant, a spatially vivid, wordlessly expressive record that feels like a lost or newly discovered folk music, rooted in the improvised music language of Chicago and opened outward through tape, strings, voice, and instinct.
This will be a mixed seated and standing room show. The first 50 tickets sold include access to the seated area. After those seats are sold, tickets will be standing room.
