WHITE WAVE DANCE Announces Upcoming Performances in São Paulo, Brazil, and Seoul, Korea

WHITE WAVE is proud to announce upcoming performances in São Paulo Brazil and Seoul Korea. They will perform at Mostra Internacional de Dança de São Paulo MID SP 2025 on August 21 at 8 PM at Sala Itaú Cultural Theater; they will perform at ChangMu International Dance Festival on August 27 and 29 at 7:30 PM at Post Theater ChangMu Art Center. In these performances WHITE WAVE will showcase excerpts from Eternal NOWand SO IT GOES.

Eternal NOW reveals secret longings through utterly human stories featuring work by choreographer Young Soon Kim and WHITE WAVE Dance. Kim whose work has been hailed for its exhilarating visually stunning and emotionally rich phrases and textures presents this expression of movement that perpetually affirms the now in space and time as it reveals the inner landscape of human emotion. The result is compelling deeply sensual work that exemplifies the remarkable versatility of its performers and the choreographic virtuosity of its maker. SO IT GOES is a 36-minute dance-theater piece inspired by Greg Haines’ original score. Crafted through structured improvisations and deep connections the dancers fuel each other’s individual expressions creating a collective beauty. Rooted in mindfulness and the present moment SO IT GOES explores emotions that seek connection and hopefulness. Even when performers move individually or idiosyncratically they remain attuned to one another. As the piece evolves in ever-shifting configurations the movements unfold organically. A pioneer of the Korean Wave Young Soon Kim is an internationally celebrated choreographer lauded for work that is “exhilarating visually stunning and emotionally rich.” Since founding WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company in 1988 she has brought her multidimensional productions to leading stages worldwide—Brooklyn Academy of Music the Joyce Theater Kennedy Center Jacob’s Pillow American Dance Festival Seoul’s National Theater the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Théâtre de la Ville (Paris) and the Festival d’Avignon among many others—and was twice nominated for the KBS Global Korean Award.

Artistic Director Young Soon Kim is a recipient of the 2023 Bessies Angel Honoree Award for her outstanding contributions to the field of dance. Her work Eternal NOW premiered at BAM and was archived in the NYFL’s Jerome Robbins Dance Division. Kim is a two-time KBS Global Korean Award nominee and the first overseas artist featured in ARKO’s Korean Modern and Contemporary Art History Series. Her dance film iyouuswee II received international accolades earning finalist honors in prestigious festivals such as Cannes Paris London Film Festivals.

Kim’s influence extends beyond choreography: she produces three annual New York festivals (DUMBO Dance Festival Wave Rising Series CoolNY Dance Festival) has juried for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and sits on the Bessie Presenter League. Her work has been spotlighted by PBS CNN and KBSTV while tours from Korea to Canada—most recently the acclaimed “iyouuswe” at the Vancouver International Dance Festival—affirm her reputation for crafting performances that pulse with poetic rhythm and emotional depth.
