Whisper of Forest

Whisper of Forest is an immersive sound journey built around one simple idea: what happens when we become quiet enough to listen to the living systems already moving around us?

Throughout the experience, living plants are connected to sensors that detect subtle changes in their electrical and conductive activity. Those changes are translated into musical information and sent into synthesizers, allowing the plants’ shifting signals to influence elements of the ambient soundscape in real time.

Rather than following a predetermined song, part of the journey is allowed to unfold in the present moment.

The plants are responding to their own internal processes and to changes within the environment around them — light, moisture, temperature, touch, movement, and the atmosphere of the space. The sound becomes a reflection of something happening now, rather than something simply played back for you.

From there, the plant-generated signals become one layer inside a much larger cinematic journey.

Live modular and ambient synthesizers create spacious electronic landscapes around the plants, while gong, crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, handpan, guitar, percussion, and other acoustic instruments gradually enter and disappear throughout the experience. Field recordings and ambient sounds from nature — wind moving through trees, water, birds, insects, distant wildlife, and changing environments — help transform the room into an imagined landscape that feels somewhere between a forest, a dream, and a film score.

At times, you may hear only a few delicate tones emerging from the plants.

At other moments, those signals may become surrounded by deep drones, resonant gong waves, soft guitar textures, handpan melodies, rhythmic percussion, singing bowls, and layers of environmental sound.

The intention is not to interpret exactly what a plant is “saying.” Instead, Whisper of Forest invites us to witness the activity of another living system and allow it to participate in the music.

The space itself becomes part of the composition.

The plants are placed within the same environment as the audience and musicians, and the unfolding atmosphere of the room becomes part of the experience. Rather than treating nature as background decoration, the plants are present as active participants within the soundscape.

You’ll be invited to lie down, get comfortable, close your eyes, and experience the journey primarily through listening.

The session begins gradually, allowing the nervous system to settle and your awareness to move away from the outside world. From there, layers of plant-generated sound, synthesizers, nature recordings, and live acoustic instruments begin to build around you.

There may be moments of deep stillness, moments that feel earthy and organic, and others that grow expansive, cinematic, or almost otherworldly.

Because part of the sound is influenced by living plants in real time, every Whisper of Forest journey is slightly different.

There is no performance to watch and no particular experience you need to achieve.

You simply listen.

To the room.
To the instruments.
To the landscape being created around you.
And, perhaps most importantly, to the subtle presence of living systems that are usually there without us ever stopping long enough to notice them.
