Where Salt Meets Seed- Living and Farming among the Mangroves

The Sundarbans is known to the world as tiger country. But beyond the reserve's boundaries, on the islands and farmlands of the wider delta, a quieter and equally urgent story is unfolding — one about the people who live here, the food they grow, and the extraordinary ingenuity required to grow it at all.
This day journey, organised by Paribrajak, a project of Paushtik Life, takes you into that story. You will spend a day moving through mangrove conservation sites and organic farmlands in the communities surrounding the Sundarbans, meeting the women farmers, seed keepers, and conservation workers whose daily lives are acts of quiet resistance against climate change, saline encroachment, and the erosion of traditional knowledge.
The Sundarbans delta is one of the most climate-vulnerable landscapes on earth. Rising sea levels and cyclone flooding push saltwater onto agricultural land that was once fertile, making conventional farming increasingly impossible. The communities you will visit have responded not by leaving, but by adapting — developing salt-resistant crop varieties, maintaining community seed banks that preserve agricultural heritage going back generations, and building integrated farming models that work with the delta rather than against it.
You will walk through these farms, handle the seeds, eat a lunch prepared entirely from what the land produces, and speak directly with the women who run these smallholdings — many of them the primary earners for their households. Twenty percent of every booking is reinvested into Paushtik Life's training and conservation work, making your visit part of the system it is showing you.
This is not a wildlife tour. It is something rarer: an honest, grounded encounter with a community building its future on its own terms, in one of the most extraordinary landscapes in India.
