WHEN YOUR SKIN CALLS YOU HOME FILM PREMIER

Nearly five years to the day after the theatrical premiere of When Your Skin Calls You Home, we are deeply honored to return to Commonweal- the place where the project was first born- to premiere the film adaptation of the work.

This will not be an ordinary film premiere, but a continuation of our creative collaboration and the next unfolding of this transformative work. Join us for an evening of heart-centered ritual and gathered community as we deepen our reflection on the wild call of home.

Bolinas weather does as it pleases. Bring layers for whatever winds may come.

Five years ago, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic- just as we were beginning to emerge from isolation, we premiered When Your Skin Calls You Home, an immersive outdoor circus-theater work inspired by the selkie folklore and Sealskin, Soulskin by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

Set among winding trails, labyrinths, and wild landscapes, the original production invited audiences into a ritual journey through aerial performance, live cello, vocals, mask work, movement, and mythic storytelling. Grounded in Curanderismo, the work explored what is taken from us, what is neglected, and what must be remembered in order to return home to ourselves.

After experiencing the original production, filmmaker Mer Aldao asked if she could adapt the piece into a film. What began as documentation slowly transformed into something entirely its own- a cinematic reimagining shaped over five years through deep collaboration, care, and devotion.

This event is also a fundraiser to support the completion and release of the film. Together, our community originally raised over $12,000 to help bring the project to life (thank you!). In the years since, we have continued investing deeply in the film’s completion- including editing, sound design, color correction, and the many unseen hours of artistic labor required to bring an independent project like this across the finish line.

Like the film itself, this work has been sustained by love, devotion, and the belief that some things are worth coming home to.

Funds raised through this premiere will help support the artists and collaborators who helped shape the film, recoup production costs, and carry the project into its next chapter- including festival submissions, outreach, marketing, and future screenings.

We will also be holding a silent auction featuring beautiful offerings, artwork, and experiences, as well as delicious baked goods and mocktails.

Tickets are by donation, No one turned for lack of funds.
