About this Event
Join us in-person when writers Ryane Nicole Granados (middle grade fiction), traci akemi kato-kiriyama (poetry and memoir), Kate Maruyama (science fiction and literary fiction), and moderator Lisa Morton (horror and the supernatural) sit down together for a conversation about their writing, the challenges women face being published, their wins and losses, and how they work to help other women writers.
Presented in honor of Women’s History Month by the Friends of the North Hollywood Library.
Mature teens as well as adults are welcome. Seating is limited and first come, first served.
There are no tickets and reservations are not required.

About the Writers
Ryane Nicole Granados is inspired to write stories of survival that magnify the marginalized while also unearthing the splendor of second chances. Named the 2021 Established Writer and Individual Arts Fellow by the California Arts Council, she curently teaches at Loyola Marymount University where she also serves as the Associate Director of the Academic Resource Center and Writing Center. Her literary work has been featured in various publications including Pangyrus, The Manifest-Station, High Country News, and The Atticus Review. Her storytelling has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and showcased in KPCC's live series ‘Unheard LA.’ https://www.ryanenicolegranados.com/
traci kato-kiriyama (they+she) is an award-winning writer/performer, theatre deviser, cultural producer, community organizer, and audiobook narrator. Their writing, commentary and work is featured in NPR, PBS, C-SPAN, Los Angeles Review of Books, Elle.com, Entropy, and numerous presses. They serve as the Director/Co-Founder of the Tuesday Night Cafe series, the longest-running Asian American public arts series in the country. With their second book, Navigating With(out) Instruments, traci kato-kiriyama uses poetry and micro-essays to explore her present and bridge the traumas of the past generations with the hope of the future ones. https://www.traciakemi.com/
Kate Maruyama is the author of Alterations, Harrowgate, Bleak Houses, and her novella Family Solstice was named Best Fiction Book of 2021 by Rue Morgue Magazine. Her short work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies and she is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, a nominee for Best of the Web, and winner of the Uncharted Short Story Prize. She has served on the working Board for Women Who Submit, and the Board of Directors for the Shirley Jackson Awards. She teaches writing at Cal State LA and Antioch University Los Angeles. Lisa Morton is a screenwriter, author of non-fiction books, and prose writer. She has written four novels and 200 short stories, is a world-class Halloween and paranormal expert, and has received the Bram Stoker Award, the Rondo Hatton Award, and the Black Quill Award. Her nonfiction titles include Calling the Spirits: A History of Seances and The Art of the Zombie Movie. Recent short stories appeared in Best American Mystery Stories 2020, Final Cuts: New Tales of Hollywood Horror and Other Spectacles, Classic Monsters Unleashed, and Spine Tinglers. She has appeared on numerous television and radio shows and podcasts such as Shock Docs, Coast to Coast, and Chinwag with Paul Giamatti and Stephen Asma, and is also the host of the weekly Ghost Report podcast.
