About this Event
When Therapist and Client are Culturally Different
A practical and reflective workshop exploring cultural difference in therapy and how it can shape meaning, rupture, repair, and connection between therapist and client
Whether you're a therapist or just curious, this is a great chance to learn and share experiences in a relaxed, friendly setting!
This full-day workshop explores what happens in therapy when therapist and client come from different cultural backgrounds. Combining key concepts with experiential learning, the day examines how cultural norms can shape what is understood as “normal,” “healthy,” or “progress” in therapy. Through case vignettes, discussion, and structured exercises, participants will explore moments of cultural misunderstanding and rupture, and practise ways of responding in the therapy room.
The workshop will also invite reflection on therapist positioning and how our own cultural identities and assumptions influence therapeutic work. Designed for both trainee and qualified therapists, the day moves from conceptual understanding to applied clinical practice.
