The Nashville Opera is excited to collaborate with Friends of Two Rivers for this special celebration of Marian Anderson’s life. On April 9, 1939, Marian Anderson sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a crowd of thousands. It was the only venue where she was allowed to sing.Fifteen years later, Marian shared her beautiful contralto voice on the stage of the Met. Her music broke down barriers and was a courageous act of resistance in the face of prejudice and segregation.
The Nashville Opera is excited to celebrate Anderson’s voice with a narrated concert of a book based on her life, titled When Marian Sang, by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
The concert is young adult-friendly and truly brings to life moments of Anderson’s story in a unique and compelling way.
This program is free! 2pm – 4pm (grounds open at 1pm)
