When Life Doesn't Go as Planned...We Have the Bible Book of Ecclesiastes

Today we are mix of feeling out of control and scary and boring and dead…at the same time. Our souls are exhausted and anxious and shutdown.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 begins “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”

Life has become meaningless. Everything is meaningless is a sad quote coming out of the Bible. But yet it also sounds so true to our anxious souls. This is the building block of the entire book. This is how today feels.

This word meaningless in Hebrew is translated as hevel. Hevel is used 38 times in Ecclesiastes as a metaphor to describe how temporary and fleeting life is--like a wisp of smoke. How life is an enigma or a paradox. Like smoke or fog, it appears solid but when you try to grab onto it there is nothing there.

We will study this book of the Bible verse-by-verse, sometimes feeling uncomfortable because these words from the Bible will trigger all sorts of feelings we are experiencing in real time. Through our study and conversations we will find hope...together.
