Join our Poetry Workshop to Find OutExperience the power of poetry, storytelling and creative expression at our next Integrated Art Circles event, “Tapestries: Stories In All Hues.” The Community Coalition on Race, in partnership with HS1 Arts & Education, invites the community to a free, two-part poetry workshop on Thursdays, April 23 and May 7, at 5 p.m., at the Maplewood Memorial Library (51 Baker Street).
Kicking off during National Poetry Month, the event will blend poetry, visual art and guided writing while participants explore artistic expression as both a personal and civic act. These sessions invite reflection on history, identity and community and affirm the role of art in responding to injustice and resisting cultural erasure. No prior writing or art experience is required -- just curiosity and a passion for narrative!
This event is led by Maplewood-based artist, poet and teacher Heru Stewart, aka Ras Heru. Stewart is a five-time published author, Dodge Poetry Festival poet and founder of HS1 Arts & Education. You can attend one or both sessions.
The Integrated Art Circles, supported in part by a grant from the Essex County Local Arts Program, reflects the Coalition’s broader commitment to using the arts as a bridge for connection, understanding and dialogue across difference.
Spots are limited. To RSVP, visit: https://www.communitycoalitiononrace.org/tapestries_stories_in_all_hues
