The Woodbrook Hunt Club is very excited to celebrate our 100th Anniversary! WHC was founded in 1926 by an Irish huntsman, Thomas H. Bryan and a Canadian officer, Maj. J. E. Mathews. The club persevered through WWII, fought off closure from a Federal highway project, hunted through Covid, and we continue to proudly honor the traditions of our great sport of foxhunting! And we're the only hunt that hunts on an active military base, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Our Hunt Week will showcase the best of our hunting, our hospitality and the great Pacific Northwest that we call home! So save the dates below, and join us for this fun-filled week! More details will follow...
WOODBROOK HUNT CLUB 100TH ANNIVERSARY HUNT WEEK
• Saturday, Nov. 7th - Our 100th Anniversary Hunt Week Welcome Party will be held at our historic clubhouse, listed on the National Park's Department Register of Historic Places along with the club's kennels in 1997.
• Sunday, Nov. 8th - Blessing of the Hounds Hunt, our traditional formal hunt with a Blessing Ceremony that includes the blessing of riders, neighbors and animals! A hearty hot breakfast will follow the hunt in front of a roaring fireplace in the clubhouse!
• Monday, Nov. 9th - Tour of the Lakewood Museum and Afternoon Irish High Tea and Open House - visit the historical Lakewood Museum, learn about the 100-year history of the WHC and browse a new curated display of of the hunt's history. Then return to the WHC clubhouse for a traditional afternoon Irish High Tea hosted by the Woodbrook Foundation and hunt staff.
• Tuesday, Nov. 10th - Trail Ride & Hunt Country Tour - Saddle up and join us for a trailride through the beautiful native prairies, lakes and old growth forests of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the 4th largest military base in the US. JBLM's 87,000 acres is home to 17 threatened and endangered species listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, including birds, butterflies, animals, plants and fish. The military base has not been developed for over 100 years and has many endangered species' habitats, and has become a sanctuary for them.
• Wednesday, Nov. 11th - Bye Day - explore the area! Mt. Rainier National Park; Seattle; the Olympic Rain Forest; Portland, OR and more are all an easy day trip! Check your bucket list!
• Thursday, Nov. 12th – Haul Out Hunt & Breakfast - we'll pick the best hunt areas and take our fastest hounds for a great day of hunting!
• Friday, Nov. 13th – Hunt on 7N & 7S, we'll ride directly from the clubhouse to hunt, followed by a light tailgate breakfast. THEN let the party begin - join us at the historic Thornewood Castle for a Roaring 20’s Cocktail Party with a twist, a Murder Mystery for everyone to solve!
• Saturday, Nov. 14th - Our Farewell Hunt followed by drinks/charcuterie. Then join us for our Centennial Hunt Ball at the beautiful Tacoma Golf and Country Club - black tie (scarlet if convenient of course)! Live band and dancing, awesome silent and live auction (get a start on your holiday shopping) and we'll dance until midnight!
• Sunday, Nov. 15th - Fox Den Breakfast - let's get all the guests together at the clubhouse for a terrific hunt breakfast and to say farewell.
