About this Event
How to rewrite your past to empower your future.
Scientific research shows that writing down our experiences can lower stress and anxiety, improve immune function and boost physical and emotional well-being. When we write about trauma, it helps us process difficult emotions. When we find the humor in it, we take back control of our own stories and release what keeps us stuck in someone else’s narrative.
Mark Twain may have said “Humor is tragedy plus time,” but Steve Allen said, “Tragedy plus time equals comedy,” and Lenny Bruce said, “Satire is tragedy plus time.” So it’s hard to attribute this quote to one person, but the bottom line is Comedy = Trauma (or Tragedy) + Time. If you are human you've experienced trauma.
In this workshop, we’ll examine the story that’s holding you back. First, you’ll write down the facts. Then together we’ll look at those facts through a comedic lens. The instructor will open up with her story, highlighting the humor, wisdom, and power that can only be attained by living through adversity. This humor doesn’t come from an insensitive place. It comes from a place of survival and strength. In the wise words of T. Swift, “Life is emotionally abusive.” Truth. So how about we figure out how to have a few laughs along the way?
