Join us in a walk around the historic Camperdown Memorial Park to discuss memoralising its history, its values and what’s being proposed in the latest 10-year plan of management.
The Inner West Council’s 10-year management plan, which will shortly go online, is a chance for the community to have their say on what we’d like to see preserved, enhanced and changed.
The draft plan contains physical improvements, cultural recognition of aspects of the park’s formation, including memorialising Joan Norma Ginn, and better waste management.
It recognises the importance of green public space in the midst of densely populated suburbs. However, it also provides for part of the park to be privatised by a local business which, controversially, has been given a temporary licence to trade in the park.
When the community was asked, it overwhelming said the park must remain fully public. However, this is not reflected in the draft 10-year plan.
Speakers include: Long-term local residents Wendy McCarthy and Pip Hinman; Newtown Greens MP Jenny Leong, architect and housing advocate Eddie Ma; activist and former journalism professor Wendy Bacon and Greens Inner West Council councillor Liz Atkins.
