One vessel. Many hands. A month of making, holding, and gathering together.
About this Event

This February, ceramic artist April Adewole invites the community into a living, unfolding clay project.

What We Bring is a month-long participatory artwork centered around the creation of a single large-scale ceramic vessel, built slowly, publicly, and collectively over the course of February.

The vessel will be begun on February 1 and remain in progress throughout the month. Each weekend, visitors are invited into the studio to witness its evolution and contribute to the making process by rolling coils, assisting with form-building, and adding their presence to the work.

During the building phase, participants may also choose to write a word, phrase, or reflection on a small slip of paper. These written offerings will be gently enclosed within the structure of the vessel as it is built, held inside the form, unseen, as part of its interior life.

The vessel will remain undecorated on the surface until the final gathering.

On February 28, the project culminates in a closing event where participants are invited to decorate directly onto the vessel’s surface using symbols, marks, and gestures representing what they’ve carried, honored, or released.

This is not a traditional class.
No prior clay experience is required.
This is about showing up, contributing, and being part of a shared process.

Project Flow:

  • February 1: Vessel begins
  • Throughout February: Community building + interior offerings
  • February 28: Final surface decoration + gathering

Scale & Completion:
This project centers around a large-scale vessel that will require access to a kiln beyond the studio’s current capacity. As part of the work, we are openly seeking a firing partner, such as a studio, institution, or kiln space interested in supporting the final transformation of this communal piece.
