Recent research in primate behavior is offering new insights into the biological roots of autism. In this talk, Dr. Catherine Talbot—Assistant Professor at Florida Tech (https://www.fit.edu/faculty-profiles/t/talbot-catherine-f/) and co-director of the Animal Cognitive Research Center at the Brevard Zoo (https://brevardzoo.org/news/unlocking-the-mysteries-of-primate-evolution/)—will walk us through her work with rhesus monkeys and what it reveals about social functioning in humans. Her research explores how social traits like low sociability can be observed, measured, and even linked to biological markers such as vasopressin. These findings are helping to build a more complete picture of autism, including how traits are inherited and how they impact social behavior over time.
Dr. Talbot will also discuss how rigorous animal models can help researchers better understand neurodevelopmental differences and explore possible paths to improving social outcomes for people on the spectrum.
This is our last speaker event of the year. Don’t miss the chance to hear from one of Florida’s leading voices in animal cognition and behavioral science.
