A talk about the neuroscience, evidence base, and clinical practice of music therapy.
About this Event

If you've ever heard of music therapy and wondered what exactly it is, you're in the right place. Among healthcare and mental health providers, music therapy can be a misunderstood profession in integrative care. Music therapy is a credentialed clinical discipline with its own assessment tools, treatment protocols, and a growing evidence base.

This free talk is for providers who would like to learn more about the neuroscience of music, and how music therapists utilize this to support client goals.

In one hour, you'll walk away with:

  • A clear working definition of music therapy and how it differs from sound healing
  • An overview of the neuroscience behind why music works clinically: entrainment, reward circuitry, memory, and emotion regulation
  • An honest look at the evidence base: where it's strong, where it's emerging, and how to evaluate it
  • Two practical tools you can start using with your own clients: the music autobiography and ISO-principle playlist building for self-regulation
  • A clear sense of what referral to a music therapist looks like in practice

Who this is for: Psychiatrists and physicians, psychologists, therapists and counselors, social workers, case managers, hospice and palliative care staff, school counselors, community-based providers, and anyone interested in the neuroscience of music.

Format: In-person workshop, followed by informal networking and light refreshments.

About the presenter: Jordan Elias, MT-BC is a music therapist in Berlin working with individuals and hosting community music workshops, listening sessions, and arts programming.
