What Is an Architect For? A Debate with Bernard Zyscovich & Andrés Duany
About this Event
What Is an Architect For?
Join star architects and urbanists Bernard Zyscovich and Andrés Duany at Bakehouse Art Complex for a public debate on the future of architectural practice and the rethinking of architectural education.
What does society need from architects today, and are architecture schools preparing them for that role? How will the profession evolve as artificial intelligence, political and economic instability, and climate change transform the conditions in which architects work?
The conversation will explore 2 central themes:
The Future of Architectural Practice
What did it historically mean to be an architect, and what does that role demand today? Working between public needs, private interests, and the forces shaping our cities, how much influence can architects exercise, and what responsibilities should they assume?
Rethinking Architectural Education
What should architecture schools teach, and where does education fall short of the realities graduates encounter? As the profession changes, how can schools prepare architects to engage critically and effectively with the social, economic, political, technological, and environmental conditions shaping their work?
Drawing on their distinct approaches to architecture and urbanism, Zyscovich and Duany will examine these questions through direct exchange, agreement, disagreement, and reflection. The evening invites audiences to consider who architecture serves, how cities are made, and what the next generation of architects should be equipped to do.
Open to architects, urbanists, students, educators, designers, and anyone interested in the future of our cities.
