About this Event

What Do We Carry?

An exploration of intergenerational trauma, identity, and healing in the Eritrean diaspora

Due to the nature of the topic, this event is Open to Eritreans only

This event shares insights from the Clinical Psychology doctoral research project (DClinPsy): Da’aro of Strength and Struggle: A Tree of Life Exploration of Intergenerational Trauma in Second-Generation British Eritreans.

Blending art, research, and dialogue, What Do We Carry? invites the community to reflect on the ways inherited histories of displacement, resilience, and survival continue to shape belonging and identity across generations.

The event features an exhibition of participant-created Tree of Life artworks, alongside reflections and narratives that illuminate how collective and personal memories intertwine in the journey toward healing.

The evening will include:

  • A viewing of the Tree of Life exhibition and research findings
  • A presentation of the research findings by Raneem Idris (DClinPsy)
  • A panel discussion and audience Q&A alongside Dr Haben Ghezai (Clinical Psychologist) and Ariam Abraham (CBT Therapist)
  • A collective/interactive activity, closing with shared reflection and connection

This event welcomes members of the Eritrean community interested in understanding how intergenerational and collective trauma are passed down, and how stories of migration and survival continue to shape identity and collective healing.

Refreshments will be provided, and prayer breaks will be accommodated.
