A diverse and well-qualified panel comprising Sarah Agnew, Marion Millin and Don Sinnott will help attendees (in person and online) reflect on the question ‘What do liturgy and worship look like from a progressive perspective?’
After a brief introduction to the topic and to the panellists by chair Kym Bills, each panellist will speak for 5-7 minutes to suggest some key considerations for an answer. Kym will help tease out a little more depth from the panellists before seeking attendee questions. At least 20 minutes for audience Q&A will allow for plenty of engagement. Existing progressive liturgy resources and options for sharing will also be discussed.
Rev Dr Sarah Agnew has been Minister in placement at Christ Church Uniting Wayville since mid-2023. Her PhD at the University of Edinburgh used an Embodied Performance methodology for interpreting the Bible. A biblical storyteller and scholar, published poet and liturgist, Sarah has rewritten hymns to reflect contemporary and progressive theology and less gendered forms of God.
Rev Marion Millin was a geographer and teacher mostly dealing with refugees before a mid-1990s call to ministry. Her first placement involved half-time roles as congregation Minister and a Perth prison Chaplain, both roles seeking to use engaging and progressive liturgies. Her last placement was as the WA Presbytery’s associate general secretary (pastoral) which involved travel across WA.
Dr Donald (Don) Sinnott has a PhD in electronic and computer engineering from Syracuse University, USA, and for over 30 years was a researcher and research director for Australia’s Department of Defence in radar, communications, navigation, and information technologies. As a lay preacher in the Uniting Church for more than 40 years Don continues to grapple with harmonising his Christian faith and the world of science.
