What Are Data Centers?

Are you looking for more information on data centers or want to understand more about the topic?
We're hosting this program to give you an opportunity to learn more about data centers and ask questions. We'll take a look at facts about data centers, what they are used for, pros and cons, and why there are so many (among other topics).
Our program presenters:
Aimee Gillette: Amy is a formerly tenured professor teaching about Media & Technology with a background in film production. She taught for over 10 years before leaving academia and moving back to the Midwest to take care of her father. She co-founded Protect Kansas in June 2026 after finding out there was a hyperscale data center planned less than 3 miles from her house.
Dr. Curtis Breville is a leading expert in AI data-center liquid cooling, sustainability, and waste-heat reuse. He has spent more than three decades advising hyperscalers, enterprises, manufacturers, and communities on resilient, high-performance cooling for next-generation AI infrastructure. As founder of IPE Solutions and creator of the Foundational Liquid Cooling Certification — the industry’s first — he’s shaping the future of sustainable data centers by advancing education, reducing operational risk, and turning waste heat into valuable community resources.
