Welcome to the Fringe...Five stops. One road. Where holding on, letting go, and becoming meet.
Tickets available at https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/what-a-mother-tales-from-route--66
In celebration of the Mother Road’s 100th anniversary, Blackjack Rewrite Company presents five original short plays telling diverse stories from the famed highway. The plays were written by local playwrights and will be directed and performed by local directors and actors. Across brief stops on America’s most iconic highway, ordinary travelers confront moments of reckoning—where love, fear, memory, and transformation surface when the road demands more than forward motion.
Hitting the Road (Susan Apker) On a forgotten stretch of the Mother Road, a long-married couple’s detour opens a quiet reckoning with time, change, and the decision to keep moving forward together.
Encounter (Michael Wright) A pause along Route 66 allows a young woman to reflect on love, independence, and the myths that shape who we think we should become.
Tornado Alley (Sarah Noe) When a sudden storm halts travelers at a Route 66 café, fear, wonder, and long-held assumptions collide, forcing a reckoning with risk, protection, and letting go.
She Who Talks in Juárez Wakes Up with Ants in Her Mouth (Shadia Dahlal) After a violent roadside incident on Route 66, a group of travelers hovers between hope and loss, confronting the fragile boundary between escape, survival, and the unknown.
Mother Roadside (Bonny Wicks) An unplanned stop on Route 66 pushes a friendship into unfamiliar territory, revealing how trust and resilience surface when control gives way to necessity.
Join us for ONE NIGHT ONLY at the 2026 Tulsa Fringe Festival. Presented at Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, 621 S 4th St., Tulsa, OK, in partnership with Echo Theatre Company and Twisted Arts. Thank you for supporting our mission, your support is invaluable.
