Wetland Exploration Day / Día de Exploración de Humedales

Nature enthusiasts of all ages and abilities are welcome to join Point Blue Conservation Science and the South Novato Library on March 28th for an exciting morning of birding, nature journaling, and habitat restoration at the Novato Baylands! The event will be in English and Spanish, and anyone is welcome to join – including families with young children, small groups, those with no birding experience, and seasoned birders.

We will meet at 9:30 AM at Point Blue's Novato Baylands native plant nursery at 737 Aberdeen Rd, Novato, CA (look for an open gate onto Aberdeen Rd from Hamilton Parkway). We’ll then walk at a relaxed pace along the Bay Trail looking and listening for many species of birds, along with other wildlife and special wetland plants. Some of the birds we might see include spectacular flocks of sandpipers, herons and egrets, migratory ducks and songbirds, and tiny Snowy Plovers. There will also be a chance to practice nature journaling, drawing the birds, plants, and the beautiful wetland landscape.

We will also spend some time weeding and learning about habitat restoration along the edge of the marsh, while discussing the far-reaching benefits of this work and issues of environmental justice.

Binoculars, spotting scopes, bird books, and brochures will be provided (bringing your own binoculars is still a good idea), plus snacks and drinks at the end of the walk. We recommend bringing your own water bottle, sun protection, layers, and comfortable walking shoes.

¡Amantes de la naturaleza están invitados a acompañarnos, Point Blue Conservation Science y la Biblioteca de Novato Sur, el 28 de Marzo en una divertida mañana de observación de aves y restauración de hábitat en Novato Baylands! Este evento será en inglés y español y todos están invitados a unirse - incluidas familias con niños pequeños, grupos pequeños, personas sin experiencia en observación de aves y observadores de aves experimentados.

Nos reuniremos a las 9:30 AM en el vivero de plantas nativas de Point Blue en 737 Aberdeen Rd, Novato, CA (busca una puerta abierta al inicio de Aberdeen Rd, desde Hamilton Parkway). Caminaremos a un ritmo relajado por el sendero de Bay Trail hasta las 12:00 pm mirando y eschuchando muchas especies de aves, junto con otra vida silvestre y plantas especiales del humedal. Algunas de las aves que podremos ver son unas espectaculares bandadas de correlimos o playeros, patos migratorios, aves cantores, garzas, y pequeños chorlitos nevados. También será una oportunidad de practicar dibujando las aves, las plantas, y el paisaje del humedal.

También trabajaremos un poco al lado del humedal, aprendiendo sobre la restauración ecológica, los beneficios de este trabajo, y la justicia ambiental.

Se proporcionarán binoculares para su préstamo, libros sobre aves y telescopios (es una buena idea, si puede traer sus propios binoculares), además de refrigerios y snacks a medio de la caminata. Recomendamos traer su propia botella de agua, protección solar y calzado cómodo para caminar.
