Create this unique vase or bowl by felting wool fibers together. This creates a one-of-a-kind, soft, structured vessel that can be used for storage or decoration.
Creating a wet felted vessel involves shaping wool fibers into a three-dimensional form using moisture, soap, and agitation. The flat resist method will be used to create a bowl shape by layering wool on both sides, flipping the piece, and rolling it inside bubble wrap to encourage even shrinkage. To finish and shape, a small hole is cut, the resist removed, and the vessel is stuffed with plastic bags to expand and shape the exterior. The plastic bags are removed once the vessel is completely dry.
SUPPLIES TO BRING:
2 Old bath towels
Plastic grocery bags for stuffing vessel
Small sharp scissors to cut hole in wool
Participants are welcome to bring beverages or snacks. There is a refrigerator available in the space. This class will be several hours long and the pace of each project depends on the individual.
Wet felting takes time and active use of the arms and hands. If you have concerns about the process please give us a call at (563) 322-8844.
This class is intended for ages 16+.
